Being a semi-native of Wisconsin, I always am running into people that know my family, or went to my high school, or are just as sad as I am that the Cottage Grove View Drive In closed. But this session was the first where the client was the older sister of my mother's current 2nd graders! The world is so small and wonderful sometimes. Maddy was so much fun to photograph, and since she was a fellow Franklinite we were able to get some gorgeous shots at a park right down the street.
Maddy's second location was in this adorable part of downtown. There is a cute little string of shops right along the lake. Maddy's outfit choices were right on- lots of bold colors and layers. That guitar is probably the coolest thing I've ever seen. It was a fantastic session and we had a blast working together!
Sometimes family portraits can feel a lot more like playtime than a photography session. Working with the Dwinell's was a complete blast thanks to their two rambunctious little girls. We all played tag, soccer, and threw around a football for our session. Getting the kids moving and changing the pace up quickly always helps keep the little ones engaged.
The Dwinell's moved into their home a few months ago and were set on getting pictures in their beautiful new backyard. There was plenty of shade and space, plus it was all ours! I love photographing families in their own homes and spaces because it makes for a much less stressful session on mom and dad. Meghan and her husband are such a wonderful couple. They had some great ideas for the session too! Getting a picture in front of their new front door was a must for Meghan so she could send it out on holiday cards. All in all it was a wonderful session.
Photographing Fadua and Carl's family was such a treat. They chose a local city park as their location, which was an absolutely beautiful spot for portraits. Fadua found my photography services through the Thumbtack website. Thumbtack is a fantastic tool for photographers of every shape and size. If you haven't heard of it- I highly suggest checking it out! From needing good holiday card photos to finding a licensed accountant to help you with your taxes- this website is my everything.
Fadua and Carl brought a soccer ball for their son to play with, which is brilliant. Having toys allows for some amazing candid shots, plus it keeps your little one active and engaged with the photo session. The session honestly just felt like playtime for all of us. We kicked around the ball, we walked around the park, and we got baby Carmina to give us some big smiles. Luckily the rain held out until the last minute and we got a full session in. Having an overcast day actually works in the photographer's favor. Why? Because we can adjust the settings on our cameras with a lot more ease. It also works out in the client's favor too because the whole session isn't spent squinting into the sun! The photos turned out wonderfully. Fadua and Carl were so pleased as was I. When you can get the little ones to have a good time, you know you have done your job!
Jessica was my very first Senior Portraits session for 2014 and it could not have gone more perfectly. As always I love finding out about new locations in the metro area. Jessica had the most beautiful smile and getting her to flash those pearly whites was a piece of cake. But the absolute best part of this session was the fact that Jessica brought her new puppy! We got some adorable shots of the two of them together. I don't know who has the cuter smile! All in all it was an awesome start to the Senior Portrait season here in the Milwaukee area for Kelsey Jorissen Photography.
"I am so happy that I decided to go with Kelsey for my senior portraits! She is so sweet, very easy going, & was great to work with! My pictures turned out SO amazing, I recommend her to anyone that wants beautiful pictures!"
Next up in The Creature Series is the fallen angel. All we know is she came from above, she's here now, and she has wings - at least for now.
